Many people have this superstition about what they do on the first day of the year is what they will be doing all year long.
Some people clean their house before hand, making sure windows are clean so the can see clearly all year.
Some people cook a feast of greens with hog jowl, black eyed peas and the finest of meat. This is to make sure you have plenty of money/ wealth = greens, wisdom and prosperity = peas, hog jowl = health, prosperity, and progress.
Some people DO NOT wash clothes on new year day because the old legend says ” you will wash that person from the earth, meaning they will die. While other believe that when washing on new year day you will always have laundry to wash.
Some people wear new clothing on new year day to have more new clothes the coming year.
Some think you need to fill your cupboards before the new year so not to be needy all year.
And the best for last if you do not get kissed at midnight, as the new Year comes in, you will be unlucky in love the whole year!

Very interesting! I never heard these ones before. I do have one that I have always liked. Kissing your partner at midnight brings luck and love for the whole year.
I like that one too, its the best.
I most often rest on that day and get ready to head back to work. This year I am working on that day.
I am always working too.
No I do not believe any of those. I just believe in trying to make the next year better than the last.
I feel the same way, what is gonna be will be no matter what.
