I love squirrels. They are really cute creatures to watch. Feed them for a couple of days and they will lose any fear they had of you and try to climb all over you and eat from your hands. They make lovely pets too.
I was about 9 years old when a baby squirrel fell off a tree. I wanted to keep the baby as my pet; but my dad wouldn’t hear of it. He climbed up the tree and put the baby squirrel in the nest. I felt truly sad.
Then my dad explained how the baby needs his/her mother and I couldn’t deprive it of its home. Just as he was explaining all this to me the mother pushed the baby off the nest, thankfully we were there to catch him.
Once touched by humans the mother abandon the babies, I learned that day. Sid was my pet for a couple of years, he was free to come and go after a month or so in my care. He was always at my bedroom window when I came home from school. A couple of years later he disappeared. I kept calling out his name but he never came.
I wondered for a long time what happened to him. Years later I was told that my neighbors cat ate him up. My dad did not want me to hear the bad news. I always think of Sid when I see squirrels. This one in the picture was eating wild figs at the park.

Such a cute capture! Squirrels here don’t trust people much, so it’s hard to see them, let alone have a contact with them. But I guess it’s better for them this way.
I saw a squirrel during my recent walk but I did not manage to make a picture … they are too fast
Squirrels and other wild animals make lousy pets for numerous reasons. In many states it’s illegal to keep them as pets, some states require licenses, and in other states people are required to have wildlife rehabilitator training. … The squirrel owns you.
I have seen little chipmunks and they are so cute, squirrels as well.
