Our travel package to Australia a few years ago was indeed well packed. We got the taste of whatever was unique in that country.
The cities covered were Sydney, Brisbane, Cairn, Queensland and Melbourne. Although we spent little time in Cairn a trip to the sheering shed was included. For us it was a unique experience. There was a talk given on the entire industry starting from rearing sheep to marketing wollies
.A ram was brought in and we witnessed the process of sheering. The meek ram simply gave in.I did not quite like their legs being suspended; may be it did not hurt them; hopefully.
There was also a shop where we could buy Lanolin which is nothing but wool fat. Most women around grabbed a bottle or two. I do not use cream and so that shop visit was not so exciting for me. Getting pure lanolin which one sees in sophisticated bottles in shops was certainly a prize purchase for those who bought it.
We have always opted for package tours as the tour conductors know what tourists should visit and experience

Yes, well New Zealand and Australia are rivals when it comes to Sheep shearing. Australia has a wide comb and New Zealand has a narrow comb. Australians don’t like New Zealand sheep shearers as they shear without cutting the sheep and quicker than them.
I did notice some kind of animosity betweenthe two countries in that I remembere we were told not to carry cheese and stuff with us when we left for New Zealand or some such issue was there.
Yes, New Zealand and Australia are strict about food items and it pays to obey the rules there are reasons.
There is an event every year near me where they show sheep shearing.
That was the first and perhaps the last time for me.
The sheep shearers used to travel through the country to different farms and ranches. It was interesting so see the different people that would come.
That makes sense as I suppose there would not be many experts at every ranch
In my travels I have experienced many things that are beautiful and bad, dear Grace
Travel is a must in one’s life as that is where we see things that we do not in our own life.
