Nature Tuesday – Alstroemeria

These pretty flowers are not all that all that easy to  grow. They come in a wide variety of colors. They are called the Inca lily, Peruvian lily and known by various other names as well. I had these plants growing in a container for a year. But they do not take well to these hot summers even though I had kept them in the shade.

Propagation is by dividing or planting the rhizomes. These flowers bloom well in our mild winters. they are popular as cut flowers and in flower arrangements.  These are one of my favorite flowers. I never forget to buy me a bunch of these whenever I go by the flower market.

  1. They are gorgeous! Cut flowers for vases can be more expensive than blooming plants in flowerpots, and usually last shorter, so I avoid them.
