Macro Monday – the bee feeds on my dahlia

Bees are one of the important pollinators that ensure food and food security, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity and make an important contribution to climate change mitigation and preservation. The protection of bees and the beekeeping sector thus contributes in the long term to reducing poverty, hunger and maintaining a healthy environment and biodiversity. Scientific studies prove that bees have become increasingly endangered in recent times. Only through joint efforts can we take care of the protection of bees and their habitat. Slovenia has proposed, within the framework of the United Nations (UN), that May 20 be declared World Bee Day. After three years of international efforts, the member states of the United Nations unanimously approved Slovenia’s proposal on 20 December 2017, making May 20 World Bee Day.
