Let's Talk About Affirmations

As of this morning, I don’t know much about affirmations and how they work. I am not sure I even understand the goal. However, I have a need for changes in my life and this seems like something that I could certainly explore. Trying to learn and evaluate something different is always at the very least a learning experience. I found this interesting definition.

“Affirmations in New Thought and New Age terminology refer primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment—fostering a belief that “a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything.”

I think everyone would agree that achieving everything would be wonderful. Assuming it only works ½ the time, it would still be amazing news.

So let’s take the next step and see what they say an affirmation should look like. These were the basic rules I found. Affirmations have to be repeated in the present tense as if you have already accomplished the affirmation. So you wouldn’t say “I will” you would say “I am”. So far so good for me, it’s the next hurdle that sets me back a bit.

  • Would anyone care to share what they believe the next hurdle is?

    • Yes
    • No

  1. If a person speaks with himself, there is nothing wrong. Many people do it when they feel stressed or thinking about a problem. There is nothing wrong or disturbing about this.
    1. Helps to sort out your thoughts
    2. Helps to learn new things and memorize information
    3. Makes us more efficient
And I happen to be stressed

  2. Here is the good news! It’s okay if you don’t answer because I can go on with more information and share it anyway. I have also learned about talking to myself from some of the best self talkers. Isn’t that what affirmations are all about?
