Lazarus’ Saturday

The Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers today celebrate one of the most beautiful holidays – Lazarus’ Saturday, a people known as Vrbica. This feast is celebrated in the last week of the Holy Fast and is dedicated to the memories of the resurrection of Lazarus and the solemn entrance of Christ to Jerusalem.Vrbica is a holiday of children’s joy for Orthodox Christians, because, according to the Gospel, Christ, going to Jerusalem, said: “Let the children come to me, for such is the kingdom of heaven.”On that holiday, the Orthodox churches are brought up by the branches of the branches that remain there until Sunday liturgy, in Cveta, when the ritual of blessing of the willow is performed. The branches of the Vrbes that are then distributed to the people symbolize the palm branches that Christians have greeted the Savior of Jesus Christ at the entrance to Jerusalem.

On Lazarus’ Saturday, it is customary to wear the branches of the willow, symbolically representing the solemn entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem, when the admirers and followers were welcomed.

There is nothing that can not be today, there is no custom that will satisfy your children or your wishes. There is no such thing, do not hold on to these customs that have nothing to do with God. Go to the Temple, burn candles and limes and live. Be people, go sick, feed the hungry.
