Here we are in the first week of November. All of the blooms are gone… except for my Butterfly Bush. There are actually new blooms sprouting out on the bush. The weather has been such a roller coaster, it is confused. Do I bloom or am I done. That is the question for this bush. You can see in the bottom of the photo, the blooms are starting to turn black, they are done. The weekend will bing frosty temperatures. This will probably be a sign for the plant it is time to hibernate and return in the spring, It is a resilient plant, I have to give it an E for effort.
I am looking for different colors to plant for next year’s garden. A black one is stunning, so I am on the browse to find one. The butterflies love this plant.

Thanks for sharing because I had no idea that butterfly blooms exist as well
Wow, I am so glad you learned something.
The weather is really weird … it’s still very warm with us
The weather is weird. Freezing rain here now.
Carol is not as NC wonder if it is so coiled weather
What? We have cooler weather here now.
With us, however, it is still warm – today it was 15 degrees
Enjoy the warm weather.
Thanks to Carol, it’s just not the most healthy
That’s very interesting! It’s not ready for the winter….it wants to keep going on 🙂
Yes it is interesting to watch nature.
If the flowers hide, will the butterfly do it too?
Yes the butterflies are long gone as well.
… sadly they have a very short lifespan. There is an average life span of a butterfly – it is usually about one month. Although the smallest butterflies that you can usually spot feasting on the flowers in your front yard will usually only live about one week. Mourning Cloaks, some tropical Heliconians, and Monarchs are some of the only butterflies that have an average life span of about nine months.
Thanks for the knowledge, Carol.
If there are no butterflies in winter, it means the thing that exists is the caterpillar, right? Where are they hiding?
Most people think of butterflies and moths as part of summer’s beauty, but these insects must survive the winter somehow for the species to survive. Different species handle the cold months in various ways, but some spend their winters as caterpillars. They typically enter a form of hibernation to stay alive until spring.
Hmmm… That’s good to know. Thanks.
November is warm this year, I have more chrysanthemums, roses, calyxes, flowers in flower
Yes it is a crazy year for weather.
It’s always wonderful to still have some flowers around.
Yes but these are on their way out.
