How Do You Cope When Overtired?

Obviously, the first answer is to go to sleep, stupid. However, there are times when we must push forward to get to a certain point with something or someone. Finishing a project before we can sleep may not be a choice. But how? How do people do it?

One major tip is to get methodical. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly while thinking through the steps we need to take can let a fuzzy brain see light at the end of the tunnel. As well, methodically slowing down a bit can help that frayed mind make fewer mistakes which actually speeds up the process.

Another tip is that a bit of caffeine can help but, contrary to what some think, it is not the solution. A huge problem can be created if we overload on caffeine and/or sugar with it so exercising restraint by being methodical in consuming any form of the product is important to staying in control.

Extra water, exercise (even though it seems like the last thing to do), and more can help in some cases but continually running around the gerbil wheel of work, work, work, with little rest is no help to anyone. Stepping back to evaluate what our needs are would be a logical move.

In the meantime, methodically executing a plan to help us accomplish a goal helps bring success to what could otherwise be a doomed predicament. Take a look at the poll below and then add your tips for success when overtired in the comments below.

  1. My advice on this is to get up and stretch every 20 minutes or so. It seems like a waste of time that would interfere with concentration, but really it is just the opposite. Doing something different, however briefly, is refreshing and brings clarity.
