Harvesting sugar cane

Sugar comes from sugar cane, the small cane that is like the little bamboo. The plantation of sugar cane is left after planting because the cane grows by itself although they need a little water when the weather is very dry. Otherwise the farmer just waits for the canes to grow until harvest time.

The harvesting is not like what we imagine that the canes are cut, tied in bales and shipped to the sugar mill. Surprisingly, the are of the farm that will be harvested is burned to the ground. After the cooling, that is the time to cut the canes and load into the truck for shipping to the sugar mill. I am sharing this knowledge for the benefit of the readers here.
