If you’ve been following my giant robot thread, then you already know about the problem I am having with the size differential. This is a different issue being addressed here- namely the orientation of the aspect ratio
I generally work in a 3:4 upright format because that’s pretty close to cover art and I am an illustrator. I am comfortable in that mode and sometimes my finished work gets purchased for covers, so it makes sense
But I don’t have to do that for each and every piece. Honestly, I think this piece looks better in portrait format because it seems taller and that is a vibe I like to cultivate in a giant robot piece. However, the landscape format does have some merits as well… Anyway, what do you think?

yeah, it is a shame you can’t see them both full size. It would be a nice enhancement but we can’t even get bugs fixed, let alone get nice features implemented…
I was concerned that most folks might not notice the cover image, which is why I now do a companion post with full sized art for my quizzes…
I think it is kinda a kludge, but since the thumbnails don’t show actual size and users can’t reply under individual pictures anymore, this is really the only solution I can come up with…
Tough call but I went with Landscape. Love the smoke by the way.
I put the smoke in there to give it a nice aftermath kinda vibe….
It works, a subtle addition not many noticed apparently.
that’s the problem with subtlety…
But it still works…
I would prefer the portrait one (although the thumbnail version in the option doesn’t do it justice)
I agree that it might give it more “height” and contrast of its size…
But it all comes down to what you want to achieve…
Show more landscape or it’s size…
Yeah, I have commitment issues that make it really hard for me to decide. Just ask any of my exes…
I picked the landscape one, it looks much clearer.
Landscape seems to be that favorite by far
