What would you expect to get in return for two loads of wheat plus 4 loads of rye, plus 4 fat oxen, eight fat pigs, 12 fat sheep, 2 hogsheads of wine, 4 barrels of beer, 1000 pounds of cheese, a bed, a new suit of clothes and a silver beaker?
This, in fact, was the ridiculous price, worth, 2500 Florins about ($1000) at the time, that one man paid fora single tulip bulb in Holland in 1630. Even higher sums than that exchanged hands at the height of what has come to be known as “tulipomania”, a rage for trading in tulip bulbs that swept the nation between 1634 and 1637.

Although I love tulips, I didn’t know it.
this is my favorite flower of all.
They don’t cost much nowadays but back then the price was ridiculous.
it is always amazing how much something can be valued!
Tulips are beautiful and that is very expensive.
