Daffodil ~ Nature Tuesday

Sharing a photo from my spring garden last year. The daffodils are one of the first blooms to appear. The yellow is like sunshine. A happy flower. And these are perennials. They last all spring and then return the following spring.

A little trivia to share about daffodils…

  • Daffodils are both deer resistant and rodent proof, as these animals do not like the taste of the bulbs in the Narcissus family.
  • Daffodils are also poisonous to pets so make sure your animals don’t eat them.
  • Daffodils are a March brith flower.

Daffodils,  That come before the swallow dares, and take. The winds of March with beauty.   ~William Shakespeare, The Winter’s Tale

  1. I love daffodils, reminds me of Wordsworth
    For oft, when on my couch I lie
    In vacant or in pensive mood,
    They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
    And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.
    I dream of them like him .

  2. When I first arrived in Cape Town which is one of South Africa’s most beautiful cities I lived next to an old couple who grew daffodils in their garden.
    What a delightful plant. I wrote a poem about it but I lost it somehow. Nevertheless the memories were awesome…
