Christmas star flower

The signs of approaching Christmas have begun to appear in my house! My Christmas Star flower has blossomed!

The beautifully colored parts that we consider flowers are actually bracts, that is modified leaves. The Poinsettia flowers are those yellow and small parts of the center of the colored leaves.

The process of coloring the leaves is very interesting. To change color, the plant needs darkness, 12 hours continuously for 5 consecutive days. Once it gets its color, Christmas Star will need full light for a bright color.
