Buying a new car or taking Grab

We only have one car in our household. The main reason is I don’t drive, and we actually can’t really afford for a second car. When we were thinking if it would be better to get a car and I start to drive, or just call the GrabCar whenever I need to go somewhere when my husband is not available.

Certainly, it would be more convenient if I have a car, so I can go anywhere I want, anytime. But having a car actually costs more than just paying for the car. We need to consider the gasoline, toll, parking and maintenance. Calling the GrabCar can be quite convenient now, as they are almost available anytime, anywhere. Perhaps it’s because I am staying in the city. I don’t need to spend time driving, looking for parking or being trapped in the traffic jam, etc. It might be easier for me, especially when I am bringing my youngest son around. I see how sometimes my friends are having some troubles when driving with their young kids.

Moreover, I actually stay at home with my kids most of the time. I don’t need to drive them to school or any classes, so I think it’s still fine for me to have no car at this moment. I am thinking if we have better public transportation system and this GrabCar service, we can save money and environment by having lesser cars on the road.

Do you prefer driving or someone else’s driving?

  2. I want to have and drive my own car. Unfortunately, I am still in the process of saving for my first car. I hope I can save enough amount so I can enjoy having one and going to every place I can think of. We have motorcycles at home but my husband and my son are the ones using those.

  3. I don’t have a driving license, so I don’t really have this option. But I think everything has its pros and cons. Having your own car is very convenient, but there are expenses and you have to think about where to park and stuff like that.
