Auckland Anniversary Day

This view was taken from Shakespear Park in the Whangaparoa peninsular, miles away from where we live in Onehunga but considered part of Auckland even so.

Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest city but not the capital like Wellington is.

You can see the outline of Auckland’s CBD in a faint outline.

We went there yesterday and I spent hours editing photos but will show you some more in another post.

Most people here just see the day as a day off and it is only a day off in Auckland. However, there are still cafes and some shops are open any way.

Auckland Anniversary Day is a long weekend and the Day is every Monday closest to the 29th January. Probably have some yachts sailing today in the Waitemata harbour.

    • Yes, there is history behind the celebration . Auckland anniversary commemorates the arrival of Lieutenant- Governor Hobson in the Bay of Islands, 1840. Today it is known for a regatta on the Waitemata harbour, probably the largest in the world.
