This view was taken from Shakespear Park in the Whangaparoa peninsular, miles away from where we live in Onehunga but considered part of Auckland even so.
Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest city but not the capital like Wellington is.
You can see the outline of Auckland’s CBD in a faint outline.
We went there yesterday and I spent hours editing photos but will show you some more in another post.
Most people here just see the day as a day off and it is only a day off in Auckland. However, there are still cafes and some shops are open any way.
Auckland Anniversary Day is a long weekend and the Day is every Monday closest to the 29th January. Probably have some yachts sailing today in the Waitemata harbour.

I think every city has its own holiday. Beautiful view.
Thanks Elenka, each town or city in New Zealand has it’s own holiday at different times. Yes, you are right.
we have many such days near us! Great picture looking across the water at Auckland (I assume)?
Thanks Doc, yes you are looking across the water at Auckland.
nice shot, i love the water to the city view!
Gorgeous photo; happy Auckland Anniversary Day!
Thanks so much Ellie for the greeting, glad you like it.
There must be some history behind this celebration.
Yes, there is history behind the celebration . Auckland anniversary commemorates the arrival of Lieutenant- Governor Hobson in the Bay of Islands, 1840. Today it is known for a regatta on the Waitemata harbour, probably the largest in the world.
Sounds like a nice day to celebrate.
So true Carol but we used the time to enjoy the day. Thanks!
