A watercolor treatment seemed to best compliment this version of the piece, and hopefully will give it some conceptual distance from the nightmare treatment

Agree. This posture is a more formal attitude with full vigilance.
It is more elegant and suits the scene better. Less is more was a hard lesson for me to learn, in my youth I tended toward extravagance…
