One of the fellow military guys I served with met a Japanese girl, and was studying how to read it. Total headache if you ask me. I would much rather learn the language.
two phonetic alphabets and then all the kanji, most with at least two readings? yeah, it is a serious migrane just waiting to happen

Yep, I used to be stationed on a military base in Okinawa Japan back in 2003. Loved it a lot, and fell in love with Japanese women.
