Be careful when you are driving around this winter because city of Chicago workers had to pull a Chicago Park District salt truck out of Lake Michigan yesterday afternoon. Two workers were in the salt truck applying salt to the bike path alongside Lake Shore Drive. Instead of spraying the salt and driving slowly, the driver was going to fast for the salt to melt an ice patch they went over.
Once the truck hit the patch, the truck began to slide backwards towards Lake Michigan. Since the truck was back loaded with salt on ice, the driver could not apply the brakes to stop the truck. Both workers fortunately jumped out of the vehicle before the truck splashed into the lake. Another truck had to salt down the path before pulling the other truck out of Lake Michigan.
Good grief. Good job they jumped out of the vehicle when they did. It looks like they had a very luck escape indeed!
Yes, it was very lucky because they jumped out right before it went vertical.
Good thing they got out quickly.
Yes, they would have sunk to the bottom if they did not get out.
Not too good at least they are both alive.
Yeah, they both jumped out of the window real quick. They should have known to be safer than usual since there were no barriers along the lake.
