Cooper’s Cave in Glens Falls, N.Y.

Below the Falls in Glens Falls, New York there is a large stone outcropping with a large cave or hole in it.  When the water rises as is seen below, the water flows through this cave called “Cooper’s Cave”.  The history behind this is that the famous author James Fennimore Cooper wrote the 1826 novel “Last of the Mohicans” in his “Leatherstocking Tales collection” and this cave played an important part in the beginning of the book. Mr Cooper noted on the manuscript that the book was based on this cave in Glens Falls and it was a real place.  To see the cave, there has to be low water and you have to get down to water level in the Hudson River here.  This bridge gets you close to the historic site.
