Creating a New Website: Brian Sloan Artist

Yesterday was the launch of my new website “Brian Sloan Artist”.

Before this website, I used a Weebly made website under their name. However, after a summer of successful sales, I decided it was time to purchase my own domain name and launch a new website, not under a website provider’s name. Even though this is just the beginning of my journey with my own website, I can already tell that it was well worth the money spent. Owning your own website shows to your audience and clientele that you are serious about your business and it helps you look more professional. This was something I desired as I know this is something I will be pursuing for years to come.

I decided to go with the cheapest plan with Bluehost and I have not been disappointed. I then installed WordPress and built my website with one a theme from their database. There are many add-ons that you can purchase but it is very possible to build, run, and have a good-looking website with just the basic Bluehost package.

It was quite the learning process building a website that wasn’t just a drag and drop like Weebly is but I felt like I was able to do more with a WordPress based site. There are many help pages to assist you along your way. If you are willing to put the time in, I highly recommend building your own website, instead of hiring someone to build it for you (which is an option), because afterwards, you will then be able to make your own adjustments, such as adding new products, and be able to simply run the website on your own once it is launched.

My website is quite simple. I have a homepage, an about page, a gallery, info about commissions page, a new/blog page, and contact page. From the gallery, each painting is linked to the product page where one can see more photos and make a purchase. I found it a little time consuming to add each product and link them to the photo in the gallery but it will now be easy to add new products as I create them as it will be just one and not twenty-five all at once.

I’m still trying to figure out all the little tricks and hidden features that come with having my own website but if you want to know anything specific, just leave a comment below or send me a message and I’ll help you out!

I also invite you to head on over to my website and tell me what you think! I would love any suggestions you have! And if you subscribe to my news page, you get 10% off you next purchase!

  1. I bought the domain through Bluehost and from there they have options of connecting it with WordPress, Weebly, and other website builders to make creating your website easier. So I was able to connect it to wordpress with just the click of a button!
