This fight was supposed to have been for the UFC Men’s Flyweight (125 lbs) title belt at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, VA, but Deiveson Figueiredo missed weight by two and a half pounds yesterday. Therefore, only Joseph Benavidez had a chance to win the title belt that was vacated by current UFC Men’s Bantamweight (135 lbs) champ Henry Cejudo.
However, Figueiredo knocked Benavidez out with 1:54 remaining in the second round. The KO was rather vicious. It started with a straight right to the face right down the pike followed by hammer punches. Figueiredo almost won the fight in the first round, but Benavidez was able to escape from a fully secured armbar.
Figueiredo would have been a good champion, but the UFC Men’s Flyweight champ is still nobody. Somebody needs to chart a way on who will be the next flyweight champion.
