Unlike 2014 to 2017, for this year’s Chicago Marathon I got the chance to watch it on television versus running it. Ten months ago, I shared an article titled My name was not accepted in the Chicago Marathon lottery, which the title speaks for itself.
It was bitter sweet leading up to the event, seeing all the promotions for 2018 Chicago Marathon, considering that I have ran it four years straight. I had to take in consideration that not being accepted may have been due to a certain percentage the race looks for, for entry. Being that the race is located in Chicago and I just so happen to be a resident of Chicago, I feel as though that was a hinderance. I would imagine that since the race is a World Marathon Major the race would like a certain percentage of runners from all over the globe versus a majority from the United States of America.
As a four-time finisher of the Chicago Marathon, I thought to myself that it had to be a bigger reason why I was not selected into the process. However, this does not stop me from entering 2019 Chicago Marathon to continue my goal of becoming a legacy finisher, which I am only one Chicago Marathon away.

I would be terrified of getting trampled!
What? Trampled during the run? I typically run off to the side and around runners keeping my own personal space
I should be a meteorologist. And the city council of Shytown needs to change the dates of the marathon to coincide with statistically good weather
Yes, you should. As for Chicago Marathon, it is so huge that it wouldn’t be an easy change due to event planning, and runners worldwide making their plans to run it. They would receive huge backlash if changes happen at the last minute. Unless of a world disaster the event will never cancel or change dates.
runners worldwide would be furious at the chance to run in decent weather
With a marathon it’s kind of good having temps at least in the 40s. One year it got so warm during Chicago Marathon, plus they ran out of water at the stations. Anything below 40 is too damn cold
I’ll stick with 80 degree weather, thank you very much
When you are running 26 miles, 80 degrees temps can be brutal unless you are use to it. You have to approach both temperatures differently, such as what you wear, and replenishment.
Who said anything about running? I just like 80 degree weather…
I love 80 degree weather when I’m cycling on my bike. I’ll take that any day compared to this crap we are getting at the moment
Exactly! I just want nice weather. If that means it is too hot to run, then I will not run…
If it’s in the 80s, I will either ride my bike outdoors or go to the gym to run on the treadmill indoors.
I can see you have some contingency plans in place
I have to have them unless I want to be miserable while conducting my favorite activities
always wise to hedge your bets
Good luck and enjoy the marathon
Thank you, Lado. I most definitely will
Enjoy this marathon race comes October 2019. That is a year long preparation. Good luck.
Thank you, and I will be fine because I have done it for so many years. I have plans to go after this one the same way I went to after my very 1st, which I started training in April.
That is very nice to hear. So you are now retraining for this great event, aren’t you?
As of right now I am just trying to stay in shape, but once into the next year I will start my training for the marathon.
Good luck being selected this time
Thanks because that would be a hard pill to swallow if I did not get excepted 2 years in a row
Perish the thought! But also don’t get hypothermia if you do get in
Haha, exactly! This weather is unpredictable
My prediction of Chicago weather this time of year? Lousy, with a good chance of rain…
And that is exactly what it was, lousy! I was happy that I wasn’t running it because it rained the morning off, plus it was cold.
