I had to get all my chores that I had listed done before everyone else got up. It’s an important couple of days for my husband and I truly want him to enjoy them. It took him a long time to come to terms with all that he is.
He was drafted and went to a war without understanding why. He just knew he had a duty. He’s native and really didn’t learn the importance of that until later in life and he finally embraced it.
We are going to the race track today and tomorrow. One, because we love to watch the horses race, we know the jockeys and we have friends there. Two, today they are honoring Veterans and he needs to stand up proud for the responsibility he took and went when so many ran. Three, they are having the Indian Relays. He will be taking sage and help to bless and take care of the riders and horses as they bravely compete. It’s more than just a race, it’s a part of the culture.
This video may be a little long for some of you and still I hope you watch it and catch the importance and the intense pride they take in their teams, their history and their opportunity to represent their tribe.
I hope you have a great day and I hope I don’t fall asleep when we get there!
Please thank your husband for his service. Those willing to lay down their lives so the rest of us can be free, deserve much more than they get.
Knowing a jockey is really cool. When we lived in Indianapolis, I did some work for a couple of racing teams at the Indy 500. I got to meet the drivers, race team and got to spend an entire race in pit row. My ears still hurt!
How I miss the horse racing of the olden times. Races were good unlike now that they are boring with only 5 horses sometimes.
Great rider indeed. Thanks for nice post
They are truly skilled riders!
