The Miami Dolphins needed something different to salvage their woeful 2-9 record. Well, this trick play against the Philadelphia Eagles will go down as the best trick play of this season and as one of the best trick plays in NFL history.
With about five minutes to go in the second quarter, the Dolphins set up for a fake field goal on fourth and goal at the Eagles two-yard line. Being down 13-7, Miami lined up in a strange rugby formation that confused the Eagles defense.
The ball was hiked to the punter, who faked like he was going to run for the touchdown. Before he was tackled, he pitched the football forward to the kicker in the end zone for the TD. The Dolphins really needed this trick play because this score was the difference in the game as Miami defeated the Eagles 37-31.
