Wacky Wednesday – Bird of the Day – Dotterel Family at Snell's Beach

I find birds have odd behaviour, like when I turn the kettle on in the morning our budgie begins to sing. Why sing to the sound of a kettle?

It doesn’t matter to me, as long as birds are happy.

Yesterday drove there and back to Snell’s beach which is just a little way from Warkworth. Had a lunch with my sister and her husband and Warwick. Then I photographed birds, the Godwits, other types of birds and there was an unexpected surprise  – Dotterels.

My sister told me there was a nest of Dotterels the little Dotterels looked like bumble bees, so I went to look. I was told there was 2 baby dotterels, but sadly there was a third. The third dotterel died and probably from a cat, stoat, weasel, rat or ferret.

I met the bird lady and she told me about it and where to go and photograph them. I saw some excellent shots.

This thumbnail is the Daddy Dotterel and he is a very good Dad. Apparently Dotterels make good parents.
