The Grey Loerie bird is a medium sized bird that is also known as the ‘Go Away Bird’ or in Afrikaans, ‘kwêvoël’. The reason they are given these nicknames is because of the sounds they make which sound like: “Goaway”, “Ohboy”, and “Kwê”. This species is only found in the lower regions of Africa. The Grey Loerie is a very social bird mainly found in large family groups and when together are usually very noisy. These birds are are quite a character as they are very playful and sometimes nicknamed “the flying monkeys”. I am very grateful to have them in our garden.
