The columbine, or more specifically, the Rocky Mountain Columbine is the state flower of Colorado. We planted some in our backyard, and I always looking forward to seeing them bloom each year. While there are 70 species of columbines worldwide, the white and violet petaled Rocky Mountain Columbine was picked as the state flower back in 1899. While some columbines are all one solid color, I like the contrast of the yellow and white center surrounded by the purple outer petals. Here are some pictures from our plants out back. Enjoy!

I love the columbine flower. I used to have a different variety in my backyard, but they eventually died.
