Physalis alkekengi

Physalis alkekengi (Chinese lantern).

It is easily recognized by the large, bright orange to red fruit covering its fruit, which resembles paper Chinese lanterns.

It grows naturally in the regions covering Southern Europe to South Asia and Northeast Asia.

In Bulgaria it is grown as an ornamental plant.

In the fall, the red color dries, leaving only the veins that form it, and inside it is visible red fruit, as if it were its heart.

It is also used in folk medicine.
