There are around 700 different species of Funnelweb spiders throughout the world and 19 known species in Colorado. While I’m not sure what specific species is inhabiting our backyard, we have a few funnel webs dispersed here and there.
The web of a Funnel Weaver spider is more sheetlike than that of other spiders and is funnel shaped. The Funnelweb spider races out of it’s tunnel when its’ prey comes in contact with the web. Then, after preparing its dinner, it drags it back down into the tunnel or funnel to eat.
