I noticed this seagull in town the other day, and zoomed in with my mobile phone camera to get a snap of him. I think he looks quite thoughtful, don’t you? I wonder what he’s looking at or what he (or she!) is thinking about? Although I think it was quite possibly the sausage roll I was eating! I did throw him a bit of it, so I think he was happy.
I shouldn’t of really done that to be honest, as our town are trying to discourage people from feeding the seagulls. They have put notices up on the bins telling people to ‘feed the bins – not the gulls.’ I can understand why they have adopted this approach. Some of the gulls have gotten quite aggressive and will have no problem in swooping down and taking food out of peoples hands. They mean no harm, I’m sure. They are just after the food. But these are big birds and can see why people would find this a scary encounter. I did have this happen to me once, but I am not scared of birds, so it didn’t phase me. But children are generally quite afraid of these big birds. They are quite noisy too when they start squawking! Have you ever experienced a seagull, or any other type of bird, trying to steal food from you?
I have seen these at parks and zoos. Greta photo.
I quite like seagulls, although many people consider them as pests. They are nice to watch though.
They seem to be very cool birds to watch.
I am not worried about birds coming up to me to get food, yes I have fed them out of my hands. I think the tamer ones expect it too much, I either have it or not, I look at the bird directly in the eyes and simply talk to me, they do seem to get what I am saying. If they don’t understand the words, they understand the tone of voice.
I agree Pamela. I think they do understand the tone of voice.
Thankyou Tasarcraft. I like watching these birds, they amuse me. =)
We’ve Starling that comes into our kitchen to steal from the dustbin… and mess up the area…
so we keep our windows close to a small gap everytime :/
we don’t have enough seagulls to cost problems..
Birds can become very wise as to where the food is. Starlings are exceptionally clever little birds, I think. I love hearing them sing. But yes, they can make a mess.
Well, its easier to keep them out than we thought, fortunately…
and yes starling are smart, they can learn to mimic human words …
He looks as if in deep reflection! Pondering perhaps the increased cost of fish and chips 🙂
Lol yes, it wouldn’t surprise me!
🙂 perhaps he should switch to bangers and mash?
