Saint Anne’s Catholic Church is the oldest brick Catholic Church in the State of California, built in the 1850’s with the help of the miners, it still holds service four times a year but has to close it doors several times in its history due to structural fears and Earthquake safety Issues!
From the Ornate Mural painted by James Falcon, the son of the founder of the Falcon House Theatre and hotel which is still in operation today, tp the beautiful light fixtures overhead, the crucifixes to the Statues of the Madonna, this Church speaks of history, and the blood and sweat of the miners who helped fund the building of this Church!
Standing guard over the Church and Cemetery are gigantic Italian Cypress trees, that tower over this Church that is well over a century and a half old!
What a wonderful story of this church. The oldest brick church in California, that is really cool!!!!
I’m not sure if it’s the oldest brick church or the oldest brick Catholic Church in California!
Either way it hits cool out of the park!!!
Would love to see those Italian Cypress trees. I am sure they are beautiful.
