Are You Serious?

End of life decisions are sometimes hard to understand. I knew that my husband wants to be cremated. He has always said that he doesn’t want a funeral. Then today he announces that when we place his headstone he wants us to play a song. I know that he likes the song and still I wouldn’t have thought he would have wanted it “played” at that particular time.

These are the lyrics

“There are secrets in the soul of meThings I keep insidePlaces you will never seeHidden under lock and keyFlesh and blood and skin and boneYou’re looking from the outside inAll you’ll see is what you’re shownFlesh and blood and skin and boneIt’s par for the course it’s a matter of factPeople are all the sameThey want to make my business theirsSlandering my good nameAll around my neighbourhoodPeople trying to say that I aint no goodPointing their finger at me and mineLook at whats hanging on my clotheslineFlesh and blood and skin and bonewhats mine is mine is mine aloneStand at the window on your tippy toesBlinds are down- skin and boneAshes come to ashesDust becomes to dustMy secret soul will never dieAs my body surely mustWhen I’m buried under the groundI’ll still be here in kindInvisible and sinisterThe things I leave behindFlesh and bone and skin and bloodBury me deep beneath the mudWhen I die only thing thats goneFlesh and blood, skin and bone.”

While I understand the reason and the song no one else would. So I guess I will quietly go take care of it when the time comes.

Are you serious?

It’s true and just a little alarming. “Well, you know how much you love Christmas and would do anything to make it special for your grandkids.”

“Yes, I really do love Christmas Magic.”

“Honey, do you believe in Christmas Miracles?”

I was beginning to feel a little queasy about that time. But I answered honestly. “You know I believe that miracles happen when people listen with their heart and they hear an little angel whisper “go ahead”. You have heard me say the 1,000,0001 times.”

“Keep that in mind. They want Grandma to be their miracle and Christmas. So we will be picking up my ex-wife and she will be staying with us until we bring her Christmas morning. We have to help her get some gifts. I love you and I have to go outside and get some wood for the fireplace.”

Huh?
