Genetically modified organisms or GMO’s have taken over the agricultural game. In fact, organic farms only make up 1% of all of the farmland utilized throughout the USA. This near-monopoly is due to Monsanto.
First, the GMO seeds that Monsanto creates have to be bought every year because normal seeds can no longer be used by farmers. Since the GMO seeds have been modified to be resistant to pesticides, the farmers then have to buy pesticides from Monsanto.
This simple process explains why farmers are now in so much debt. The debt is so out of control that farmers are actually looking for the US government to enforce regulation to prevent Monsanto from becoming a agricultural monopoly within the country. However, the cycle has already been set with GMO’s.
