The tubes dissolve from Es’ mouth and arms. The wires slither away from her chest and head, slinking back into their panels.
A medtech injects Es with a sonic med-injector, then steps back.
Jolting violently, Es coughs in a staccato burst of several short coughs and then blinks several times rapidly. Tears start streaming from her eyes, and she reaches for her throat with one hand and her chest with the other. Mouthing a silent scream, she struggles to sit up.
Jut pushes me gently toward Es.
Moving to sit gently on the bed with her, taking her hands as I recall my own reconscience. I know the shock of becoming aware again. That one moment, where you are with no senses, then the next, the overload of the full intense sensory load. There is no pain, just our full senses activated.
It’s so overwhelming to feel everything and not know how you got there, or the why of it.
The gnolls are amazing medics but appear to be horrid psychologists. Terrorizing humans, while proficiently healing us.
Pulling Es to my chest, I simply held her tight as she acclimatizes to consciousness again.

It took Es a full day to mentally recover from her reconscience. She’s been cleared by the medtechs to check out of the med facility, and now we’re down out front of Friend House Tower at 1263 Terra Street watching a group of Hean activists protesting against the Gov.
The Hean are marching down the centre of the Terra Street – completely nude. Not even footwear, nothing other than their colourful blue and green pictorial picket signs.
I estimate a headcount of around three-hundred protestors. They’re protesting the medical system’s treatment of the underprivileged.
I look at Es and wink while chuckling. “We’re not underprivileged in any sense of the word … do we share our knowledge of the gnoll tech?”
She takes my hand and squeezes it as we start walking south toward Hasting Avenue to catch the Quickie Cab I had called up a few minutes ago, and have reserved it for our use.
She utters, “No … I’m greedy and selfish that way. I have the gnolls and you. I’m not sharing any more than I need to.”
This ends the episode of Eren’s Challenge written by, Kenneth Shumaker.
May the words stay with you!
