“I Hate Coffee, but yes, I’d love a Cup.”

As I wrote what my protagonist, the leading character in my new short story, a criminal profiler, Doris Prichard, had to say, when the case she was building was finally taking shape, but, try as I may, and even after several gulps of scalding Nescafe’ Gold, coffee, I just couldn’t get her to say something spectacular, in response to the investigating detective, homicide, Sargeant, Jake Moresby’s question, as he offered her some “Special Police brew”.

Then, I think I nailed it, when she wearily replies, “I really hate coffee, she said, but I don’t really like it when my head slams against my desk when I fall asleep again either, so yes, please Jake, with three sugars, and black.”
