Phenomena On New Year’s Eve ~ 365 Photos Challenge #41

While enjoying the night sky of Jakarta on New Year’s Eve which filled with fireworks in every inch, nature also provides other special entertainment; full moon. Unfortunately, the phone camera I use was unable to present its beautiful face originally!

Nature lovers will witness the interesting thing in January 2018, i.e two supermoons. Blue moon and total lunar eclipse. Supermoon, a phenomenon that occurs when the full moon is at its closest orbital point to Earth, appears to be 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than when the moon is at its furthest point in its first orbit of 2018 has occurred on the eve of the new year yesterday until tonight, January 2nd. Another supermoon will soon follow on 31 January, at a distance of about 26,500 kilometers closer than usual. Both supermoons are part of the supermoon that began December 3, 2017, ago. Scientists say, very rarely there is two supermoon in a row, let alone three. The last full moon of January is also known as the blue moon, as it is the second full moon that occurs in a month.

  1. Apogee and perigee are the points of ellipse. Her orbit’s not round, so a bit nearer she slips. The Earth does it too, as around sun, we clips and amazing we’re not flung into deeper space trips. I got all bundled up to take a pic of her reflection in the river current but, when I got there the frigid cold had zipped up the river tight! No open water! Not a typical thing for such a fast moving stream….BRRR! -30 F

  2. To my great regret I was so busy with other things and forgot to take a picture. Next time. I like the Full Moon and its glow, but I can not sleep. Hahaha
