Christmas Edition for Macro Monday! First of all, I want to wish you Merry Christmas!
Today, on Christmas, I want to give you all this wonderful flower that has blossomed in my home.
Poinsettia is one of the most popular Christmas flowers. It is particularly well known for its red and green foliage. According to Wikipedia the plant’s association with Christmas began in 16th-century Mexico. Legend tells that a young girl celebrated Jesus’ birth, bringing weeds in front of the church altar. Crimson blossoms sprouted from the weeds and became poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations. The star-shaped leaf pattern is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, and the red color represents the blood sacrifice through the crucifixion of Jesus.
