In many parts of the world, this fruit because of its medicinal properties is classified as a medicinal herb. After the explosion in Chernobyl, it was used to mitigate the consequences of radiation. Aronia is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, trace minerals, folic acid and vitamins B, C and E. Due to the high antioxidant and vitamin C and E content, the aronia acts antivirally, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Aronia stimulates liver function, helps with gallstones and inflammation of the gallbladder.
It has a beneficial effect on our digestive system – it calms the cramps and pains in the intestines, reduces inflammation of the intestine and stops diarrhea. Aronia is also useful in inflammation of the urinary system.
