Walking Stone – 365 Photos Challenge #18

I managed to have some spare time while headed to work to stop in at Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park where there are 60 + of these unique looking sculptures. My most recent share from this park was ‘Time Flies’ by Konreid Muench, which you can view here. Today’s feature is titled ‘Walking Stone’ by Bruce Johnson. Per, Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park ,the artist used natural redwood from his California home, and added overlapping copper “scales” to complement the grain and texture of the wood. He worked the wood with an assortment of tools to give the sculpture its creative qualities. The finished form suggests legs and feet walking; the simple form and unique textures combine both Eastern and Western sensibilities.

As for these photos they were taken with a Samsung Galaxy S8, and shared as part of the 365 Photos Challenge, which the rules and guidelines are listed if you would like to participate.

  1. An interesting combination of materials this is. Though at first it reminds of something one would imagine coming from another planet, I think it could be inspiration for a fun children’s story. The artist had a neat idea, anyway.

  2. A very unusual, different but also enticing sculpture. Well, at least it inspires me to go out for a walk if the weather permits it (it is very hot and muggy here). Thank you for featuring this. I was drawn to it on the first look.
