Moon’s Sandwich Shop is located at 16 South Western, Chicago, Illinois (Near West Side). The building was built in 1931 and the sandwich shop opened in 1933.
It became very popular in the 1940s and is still serving up sandwiches today although, obviously, it was not open when I took the photo. It is also very popular with the local police.
The photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera. I used Luminar 2018 for the post-processing. First I straightened the image and used the RAW Develop filter to adjust the white balance, raise the contrast, shadows and clarity and lower the highlights, whites and blacks. Then I added the Accent-AI filter and used the Tone filter to lower the SmartTone and the Brilliance/Warmth filter to raise the vividness and warmth.

Hey now Gary, this is in my neighborhood.
Charming! Happy to know the shop still works 🙂
I’d never heard about it until I took the photo but I shared this on some Chicago-based Facebook groups and without exception, everyone said the food was great. It’s not a part of Chicago I get to very often – it used to be a very dangerous neighborhood but not so much now, at least in the daytime – but I really want to try the food there.
Dinners are the best place to try a new food, I have that impression. What you see is what you get. No fanciness whatsoever 🙂
My wife and I make a point of going to diners and hotdog places. They usually have much better food.
Very nice photo effects as always Gary.
Thank you very much, Carol. I’m glad you liked it.
