Monroe St Bridge Over the Chicago River in the Loop, Chicago, Illinois (2010-02-17 12-58-13a)

17 Feb 2019

The bridge crosses the Chicago River on the western side of the Loop at Monroe Street in Chicago, Illinois. It is a bascule bridge that was built in 1919 making this year its 100th anniversary.

The photo was taken using a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera. Editing was done using ACDSee Ultimate action to lower the saturation completely except in the reds, 2019. I used my ‘Bloody Mary’ action to completely lower the saturation everywhere but the reds, sharpen the image and add a slight vignette. Then I adjusted the lighting and the tone curves.

    • There’s a lot of traffic over it so they have to be kept in very good shape. Some problems were found in a different bridge recently because of our winter weather so the city looking at all of them.

      • Most bridges that I know of in my former hometown in Metairie Louisiana which is a suburb of New Orleans claimed to have opened around 1936 like one bridge that crosses over the 17th Street canal that divides Jefferson and Orleans Parishes.

      • For me, it was more staying in a hotel downtown. I didn’t live in Chicago when I worked in Chicago. (When I lived in Chicago I was not working at all)! My commute was long either way, until I got to Chicago, then it was a short walk!
