God's Holy Harvest House

God’s Holy Harvest House (2013-11-26 13-06-31a)

This church is located at 729-31 W 19th Place, on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois (Pilsen neighborhood). The church started in 2012. The church building was built in 1885, just fourteen years after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Note that it is constructed with brick as wooden buildings were outlawed in the city a few years after the fire.

The photo was taken using a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera. I then used Affinity Photo 1.6 to adjust the perspective and crop. The original sky was absolutely awful so I replaced it with Uplift-Clouds-48 from the Uplift Epic Skies Overlays collection using the Luminosity blend mode. Then I reduced the brightness, boosted the contrast, increased shadows, highlights and saturation to make the church building look more like it would have if this were the actual sky. It’s not perfect but it’s not that far off either.
