Canada Lynx

Things were rough here a couple of days and we decided the perfect remedy was a quick “Montana” run. It seems like as soon as I see that sign and cross the boarder my worries hang out in Idaho and I can leave them there and just enjoy.

We took the horses up Saddle Mountain. It was beautiful and we were able to catch a glimpse of a Canada Lynx. It is rare for us to see those in that part of Montana. They are listed as “threatened” so they are protected in the state.

It is interesting because they evaluate tracks. The cat is so elusive that tracks in the snow are the most reliable way to determine population.  At any rate, we were able to catch a glimpse as it headed up into the rocks. It’s a rare treat and worth drive, the soreness from the saddle and a bit of chill to have the experience.
