Bellator MMA made some noise earlier this year when they signed one-armed lightweight fighter Nick Newell. Although Newell was born with a congential defect in his left arm, he has improved his mixed martial arts record to 16-2 with his victory over Corey Browning at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT.
Newell has a disadvantage in striking because he has to defend and to throw punches with one arm. However, that disadvantage turns into an advantage with his wrestling and his grappling. Nobody can break his grip once he grabs a body lock. In his first-round submission victory over Browning, Newell was able to secure an arm triangle choke that is impossible to escape.
I only watch when Aaamir Khan come in the ring
Khan has a huge following. He doesn’t need to fight Pacquiao though.
I haven’t seen that fight but I had read the results. It’s great for that fighter with disability to win by submission.
Sorry but I do not follow this sport. 🙂
That’s fine. I did this post because Nick Newell is one of the most inspirational people living today.
That is quite an accomplishment for a one-armed contender.
His record is remarkable because he wins at a high rate even with what he has to deal with.
