Our serial series is set in Kenneth Shumaker’s medieval fantasy realm of Quantos. We find Apprentice Mage Morgus is out from the Mage’s University and on his one-year walk-about before he returns for his journeyman certification test on Autumn 50 of Pine, during the reign of King Regeanus III in the royal city of Mount Oryn’s South State District 13. Our intrepid hero, with a checkered past, is an attractive thirty-three-year-old human Jalnoric male with a bold personality and is determined to survive his walk-about year at any cost, even if it means snuggling in and working with nobility.

We continue now with Morgus episode E008 ‘Green Rabbit Bottle’ on:

Winter 1 Bear

Standing quickly after clearing his throat, Morgus leads Leza, who is no longer green with nausea, to the dining table.

In the dining room, Morgus sets her chair for her as she sits. Taking the green bottle of wine from the table, Morgus pours them each a half-full goblet. Then he begins carving the rabbit and serves the roasted green rabbit and the bottled wine. This is a rare treat which only nobles can afford. Morgus estimates this meal costs at least sixty Flairs. He serves Leza and then himself, overjoyed with the efforts by the cook and Ada.

The day continues to go exceedingly well, such that Morgus almost invites Leza to stay, but he maintains manners and has Gendal drive her home before the evening meal.

…..

Talking animatedly with Ada at staff evening meal, Morgus asks, “How did you manage to serve the green rabbit bottle meal without Larap knowing about the bottle of his wine?”

Laughing, humoured, Ada shakes her head, and then she replies, “Master Morgus, the Baron was fully aware of your activities today, along with the use of Gendal and his staff for your entertainment of Master Leza. He is fully supportive, happily supplying the hundred Flair bottle of his wine. You have all of our support in the wooing of Master Leza; we like her. But all are aware that she is below your station and social class. You should also know that we are aware of your beginnings at the Perch Inn, Mage Morgus.”

Looking around at the gathered staff of Larap manor, and seeing their approving looks, Morgus mentally swears to stay down here for meals with them, even as the estate chamberlain. He smiles for each of them.

To be continued in Morgus episode 009 ‘Green Dog Square’ …

Looking around him, Morgus is distraught as he is in the middle of Larap’s job, trying to survive. Figuring out how to survive is the problem, never mind finishing this job. Why the Seven Hells did he take this on alone?
