On Monday, we received our first snow of the year. This isn’t necessarily uncommon, but more fell than was expected. It took its toll on some of the area trees. Since many of the leaves have yet to fall, the heavy, wet snow stuck to the leaves and weighed down the branches. In some cases, the beaches broke. It’s amazing how heavy snow can be. When you see it falling down from the sky, you don’t really think about its weight. Individually, the weight isn’t significant, but when it piles up it can knock down tree limbs and power lines. At least the roads weren’t too bad. With the temperature hovering around freezing, the roads were simply wet and slushy.
