A bit about ‘Following’

I don’t wish to seem a Meany, or sound ungrateful… BUT

(Those that read my posts often, know there is always a ‘BUT’)

And this ‘but’ goes like this…

Thank you. Each and every one of you who ‘follow’ me. I really do appreciate you doing so, especially as I am a rather random and infrequent user, due to my other commitments.

To try and make up for my absence, when I post I generally attempt to make the content high quality, something informative or perceptive, entertaining or captivating, so it is worthwhile you spending your time reading my words.

Which brings me to the ‘but’ I mentioned earlier.

As I am not on Virily as frequently as many, when you follow me I always take a peek at your blog posts too. This way, I have been introduced to some wonderful posts and people. It is, usually, a pleasure to read whatever you are writing about.

If you post about a topic I am interested in, or I find your post captivating I shall, without doubt follow you back. (I may miss a few of you at first, but I am sure I’ll catch you up when you comment on another of my posts.) If I have totally missed any of you comment on this post, let me know.

BUT(this is it), when I see a new follower and look at their profile, seeking out their posts and find they have posted nothing and their profile is almost blank, or has very little information, I do not follow back.

This is not because I am ungrateful or I am the ‘Meany’ I mentioned at the beginning of this post, but because I see no reason. If you do not post anything there is nothing for me to follow. Plus, there is always a fear of trolls, hackers and content thieves lingering in the background of my mind.

I can appreciate if you are just here for the entertainment of reading those blogs and posts which you enjoy. Carry on enjoying.

But (another one), do not expect to grow a great following yourself if you do not give any input of your own.

Therefore, if you ‘followed’ me and I did not follow you back because you had not posted, but you now have, let me know. I will read your stuff and if I like it, I shall follow you.

I hope I have explained all that in an understandable fashion?

Keep happy and enjoy life, it’s the only one you have.

What do you think?

  1. I do agree with you and I do really think there are lots of humans (if they are, let’s pray – or prey them) which are here for the follow or for anything else I really don’t know what that is, and I am not going to discover it, as I do have so many things to do that I will not have the time for that.

Just like you I am so much afraid of hackers and so many other negative things internet brings into our lives that I prefer stay away from them.

Thanks for the good read you gave us and, yes, I will follow you. Unfortunately, or eventually (I still don’t know which vocabular structure to use in this situation), you will have a good read on my blog, but I can tell I am not into long posts. I am more into photography or something that can be inspiring, but short. Sometimes you will find long posts, but I really don’t bet on that. Well, I am still a new user, let’s wait and see! (Hey, why am I explaining all this? Well, I am just a human… please, don’t prey me!) Hope you had and still have a great time. I had with this reading and also comment! =)

  2. In this case, I really agree with you. How can I become a follower of someone who does not offer anything? I can understand if they are newbie, for some of them I follow back if there is a clear enough bio with adequate photo profile, but (let me also use this) if they already have rankings, and have never posted anything… even though I have not done whatever for them to date, but (again) your writing makes me think more seriously about it.
