The Giant Coconut Crab is the largest species of hermit crab. It can be found around the Pacific Islands, the Indian Ocean and around Australia. They are omnivores, they eat matter they find on the floor, usually fruits, nuts, small insects and seeds and sometimes even dead animal matter. They do not usually eat coconuts even though these crabs are often called “Coconut Crabs”. These animals can weigh around 4 kilograms (9 lbs).

I would be pretty freaked out to find such a crab on my trash bin but I understand the crabs are not violent and should be left alone.
