Weekly Macro Monday comes again with ….lichens!
Nature makes the most beautiful art work to which we all have access for free. The lichens are often ignored and we only appreciate their beauty when we see them either a microscope or when we see them in close-up photos. As I noticed from the photos I took they are different from each other and they are unique, I mean their patterns and shapes. Maybe I’m wrong!
A lichen is a composite organism that arises from algae living among filaments of multiple fungi species in a mutualistic relationship.

Algae is common and we see it in our bird bath if we do not change the water but I have never seen what you have displayed here. You are right about not noticing it unless it is zoomed.
Lichen is not a algae. They are a separate group of organisms, resulting from the permanent coexistence of a fungus and a green or blue alga. It is totally different structurally from the two partners participating in the symbiosis. They can grow on trees, on rocks, on soil..
So happy to see you also enjoy the little things in life. Nature is so rewarding.

They are certainly a very successful lifeform that has been around for an extremely long time!
I agree! They are considered to be among the oldest living organisms.
